Along the way Amka makes friends a fluffy tailed Arctic fox called Kim Johannsson\, and together they confront the dragon who froze the moon. \n \n  \nIt’s so cold in Lunavik that the moon has frozen! A greedy dragon has gobbled every fire and every light\, leaving only the white glow of the frozen moon. You can’t feel your toes\, fire freezes in the hearth\, and it doesn’t even snow... but not all warmth is lost. \nUnder the glittering stars and dazzling aurora\, Amka’s family huddle together\, fishing for eels and knitting plenty of hats. In this heart-warming tale\, a young girl sets out on a quest to confront the dragon under the ice who has hoarded all of the fires and lights for himself. DESCRIPTION:We Are Family: creative writing workshop \nwith Oliver Sykes\nFree / 11-1pm / Ruthin Library\n* You don't need to book to attend but if you have time to RSVP below it helps us manage numbers\n\nFor children aged 5-12 (adults are welcome too) which encourages children to explore their own lives as inspiration for a story that is unique to them.\n\n**All materials provided\n\nAbout Oliver Sykes\nOliver is a multi-award-winning author\, poet\, writer/performer and producer\, based in Denbigh\, North Wales. He is also one of six kids\, and was brought up on a council estate in rural Derbyshire by his single parent dad.\n\nIt’s been a whirlwind few years for Oliver. He is a Supported Artist with Manchester Libraries\, Manchester Children’s Book Festival and Z-Arts. He has secured publishing deals for four new children’s books and has toured two of his critically acclaimed debut children’s theatre shows\, Alfie’s First Fight and Fishing For Rainbows\, nationally. \n\nIn January 2022\, the British Citizen Awards officially recognised Oliver for his positive impact within the arts community. Of Oliver\, they said\, “Having overcome a difficult start in life\, he has used his experiences as fuel to overcome challenges and barriers of class and social mobility to build his own career in the arts\, after which\, he has actively created progression routes to help other marginalised young people do the same. His is a vitally important voice that needs to be heard.”
