DESCRIPTION:We Are Family: creative writing workshop \nwith Oliver Sykes\nFree / 11-1pm / Ruthin Library\n* You don't need to book to attend but if you have time to RSVP below it helps us manage numbers\n\nFor children aged 5-12 (adults are welcome too) which encourages children to explore their own lives as inspiration for a story that is unique to them.\n\n**All materials provided\n\nAbout Oliver Sykes\nOliver is a multi-award-winning author\, poet\, writer/performer and producer\, based in Denbigh\, North Wales. He is also one of six kids\, and was brought up on a council estate in rural Derbyshire by his single parent dad.\n\nIt’s been a whirlwind few years for Oliver. He is a Supported Artist with Manchester Libraries\, Manchester Children’s Book Festival and Z-Arts. He has secured publishing deals for four new children’s books and has toured two of his critically acclaimed debut children’s theatre shows\, Alfie’s First Fight and Fishing For Rainbows\, nationally. \n\nIn January 2022\, the British Citizen Awards officially recognised Oliver for his positive impact within the arts community. Of Oliver\, they said\, “Having overcome a difficult start in life\, he has used his experiences as fuel to overcome challenges and barriers of class and social mobility to build his own career in the arts\, after which\, he has actively created progression routes to help other marginalised young people do the same. His is a vitally important voice that needs to be heard.”

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a jolly good social evening of music and dancing on our sprung floor Assembly Hall at Ruthin Town Hall. All ages and abilities welcome. No previous experience required. \nThe Band: \nBand Y Braichmelyn has been in existence since the late 1980's\, and is still very active. The roots go back even further to The Boffins\, run by Neil's dad since the 1950s. We weren't born then\, but both of us played in the band a lot in the decades before we moved to Wales and formed Band Y Braichmelyn. The band name\, by the way\, derives from the area of Bethesda where we lived for many years. \nWe provide a caller to explain the dances and make sure everyone has a good time. The calling is bilingual.

QE2 Recreate the magic that Queen provided during their Live Concert performances. \nThe band go above and beyond to recreate the look\, sound and energy of a live Queen concert\, this includes custom made costumes\, replica equipment and mannerisms\, the love and passion they have is clearly visible when they are performing live on stage. \nThey have performed hundreds of shows and more per year to Queen fans all over the world and are proud to say that some of their biggest and best festivals over the years have been in Tripoli in Libya\, The Granaries Floriana\, in Malta\, Lisbon in Portugal\, Toulouse\, Albi\, Perigueux in France\, Rzeszów and Warsaw in Poland and Malaga and Valencia in Spain\, Amsterdam and Eindhoven in Holland\, to just a few\, performing to audiences ranging from 10\,000 to 35\,000 people. \nWe feel very lucky to have them on in Ruthin Town Hall!

Parking for vendors is also available free of charge. \nIn addition to Ruthin Town Hall\, the event will also feature two other locations - The Old Courthouse and Nantclwyd y Dre\, both popular ceremony venues in the area.
